  • Hello,

I just wanted to know the system requirements, it doesn't have to be the exakt CPU or GPU the CPU/GPU-generation is enough.

    Short FAQ

SpaceSys is using a game engine that uses resources of your PC as any other game does.
Depending on your PC configuration you can feel its presence.

If you have a PC close to minimum specs you can have slowdowns with high demanding games running together with SpaceSys, because of the used system ram, if you have a pc near to recommended specs, you will not feel it at all.

While running at highest details in the most complex environments SpaceSys uses 30% of CPU, 500Mb of system ram, and 90% of GPU. Those stats might vary, but not much.

Once you start another 3D demanding app / game, SpaceSys minimizes to background, using 0% CPU, 0% GPU and 500 MB of system RAM in the most demanding environments, and if you have 4GB or more ram you want feel it there.
Once you close down the game / app, SpaceSys comes back to life seamlessly as Windows desktop would, taking again resources from your PC and still leaves you more than enough to go on.

You can play the most demanding games with SpaceSys running in the background without feeling it, as long as you have 4Gb of ram and above.

SpaceSys is not a demanding app. If the world is simple like the one with formula1, you can run it with a minimum spec machine in 60FPS, even with thousands of icons in the background, but if you start a game that will use all of your ram, then you might experience slowdowns. SpaceSys while minimized uses 150 MB of ram, 0%of CPU, and 0%GPU and even that world is complex because of the highly detailed model.

We will make even faster worlds with less demanding graphics which will use even less resources than that. But as the technology advances, we think that these minimal specs are quite ok.

Also SpaceSys is highly configurable, there is a configuration app that controls the detail levels and behaviors with which you can control every aspect of SpaceSys even in this pre-alpha state.
And that configuration app will grow more complex allowing you even greater control.

Will update this thread with more info as questions come up, if you have any, please ask.

    Cheers!

  • In addition to scaling down the graphics in the World, on the fare you told me about differently themed worlds, beside the island, maybe one of the others could be a rather small place, with much less objects for lower end computers, and/or laptops, if the levels are loaded individually, i mean. maybe its not a new idea for you, but just crossed my mind :) .

  • Yes, we had ideas like completely void environment, something like a navigation view in MassEffect series where you can explore the galaxy. In that case we should limit free movements because you could get easily lost in space..
Beside that some very simple graphics environments that are low end system and business purpose friendly..
We'll get there, step by step ;)

  • If i am running Spacesys and want to start a Game, will Spacesys shut down to a black screen or something to give ressources for the game?
Like some other Programs, which recognize Direct3D Applications.

  • Not yet but we'll do that soon, in next couple of updates. We definitely don't wont to steal resources from the resource demanding apps..
After-all, we are gamers too ;)

  • Right now we are working on a "saloon world" i see lots of people have a pic of their favorite car on the desktop, so we are experimenting right now and making such world that will feature just a car inside, to serve as a world..
So 3D Ferrari as your desktop is almost live :) you will have it till the end of the month, you will be able to insert your own car, or cars later on, icons look cool on a shiny hood of a Porsche :) (not that im in middle age crisis) hahah..

Check it out, it will be very fast, we have hundreds of frames, and it will be clean and easy to navigate.

  • Thanks, but that was done in like 20 minutes, just to test the environment, now it goes into real production, but that was to show what you will be able to do later on, in just 20 minutes :)
